How Do I Look After My Solid Wood Dining Table?
Solid wood tables and worktops are beautiful living materials with its natural charm. When they’re first prepared with oil, the colour of the wood will be vibrant however this can fade over time with usage as the oil starts to wear off. We will show you how to refresh your wood table top and bring it back to its natural beauty.
We recommend you keep your dining table clear of any residues and wipe down with a slightly damp (not wet) cloth after each sitting. You can use a surface cleaner to clean the surface and wipe down after each use. If you have any spillages they should be wiped immediately to prevent seeping into the wood. The oil will help with protect against water. Wood is a natural material and should be oiled regularly approx. every 6 months to maintain the materials an provide longevity.
Can I place hot pots and pans on my table top? You should not place any hot or wet pans directly on to the surface of the wood. Ideally, you should use a heat table mat to protect the surface.
Re-applying oil to your dining table top
The demonstration below shows how to apply Oil such as Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil to a table top which has been previously been prepared with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C. If you want to see how to prepare a surface from scratch including the sanding process, this will be available in a few weeks.
All Oak, Ash & Beech tables at PÖYTÄ are prepared with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C where as our Walnut tables at oiled with Osmo Polyx Satin. We recommend undertaking this re-oiling process approx. every 6 months. Applying oil to a wood surface certain helps protection however to ensure longevity, we recommend cleaning spillages immediately and using table heat mats for hot surfaces such as pots and pans.
The 3-Step process of how to re-apply oil to your wooden dining table top in this videos is as follows:
STEP 1. Clean the surface using soap water ensuring it is clean of debris and left to dry out for approx. 10 – 15 mins. (We’ve used Rubio Monocoat Soap mixed with water 1 : 10 ratio).
STEP 2. Shake the maintenance oil vigorously to ensure it is properly mixed and apply sparingly to the table top. Using a sponge, work the oil into the wood fibres applying even pressure through out and buff the entire surface.
STEP 3. Once you’re done, within 15 minutes of applying the oil, go over the surface with a cloth to wipe off excess oil and leave to dry for 4 – 6 hours.

Take Care of your Quartz Dining Table Top – Follow this 3-Step Process
Whether you opt for a marble effect or granite effect quartz, it is high advisable that you spend some time each day to have a simple cleanse of the Quartz kitchen dining tabletop
- Clear any crumbs or leftovers food residues from the top after each sitting.
- Clean the worktop with warm water with few drops of surface cleaner or antibacterial detergent, using a soft cloth.
- Rinse the surface again thoroughly with clean water and dry it using a soft cloth.
